Pearl Bailey (32:24) : Angelou could've been her understudy in Hello Dolly, enabling her to work in New York full time and be with her son. However, Bailey said "Oh no, I'm not going to have this big 'ole ugly girl be my understudy."

\ Angelou cried, then returned to life on the road finding new ways to work; without her son, Guy Johnson.

\* 35 years later, Bailey requested that Angelou present her with the Guild Life Time Achievement Award. Angelou never mentioned the Hello Dolly incident.
