Raven C. Waters

Freeflow, re: Toni Morrison: The Pieces I am, Film

Did I know?

Before my mother unionized me with Brea, saying we were different than the other girls.

I didn't

I don't understand

Alexis was there too

Were we not three?

If we had to be two

Fifth grade knowing there was differnce

Sixth grade new world of middle school and people

Sventh grade understanding bonds didn't have the same amoutn of time to form or repair

Eigth grade feeling stuck in a small world, but high school to follow next

Eighth grade, transferring within two days to a new school on a whim

Eigth grade - I created the narrative

No one knew me

No one knew I was realyl quiet, little friends, crushes never relationships

Instead, Raven was

Goofy

Confident

Outgoing

Talkative

Flirting

Center of attention

Take care for a nice outfit

Doing the work to ensure I'd be called smart

Walk straight, upright

Big fish, small pond

College

Bigger pond, bigger fishes

Unique ones

Large possibilities of people

Who did Ravey want to be?

Hard working, afford lifestyle : worked 3 jobs at a time, always

+ Interesting b/c thats how my mo. would avoid living her life ... (unpack)

Smart : remained articulate and talkative, avoided classes i knew were too hard, didnt share gpa

travlere " maintained gpa to ensure i could go on as many school trips as possible

+ regret not studying abroad, ignoring the present in attempt to safe guard the future

self care: inspired by jen doing her nails weekly in a nonchalant desired lifestyle way + face masks, hair care, outfits .. genuine care with self and image (which I now understand as so valuable as its the lasting piece people can grasp)

She doesn't seem to be in Waters
